The word stratum refers to layers, often in rock formations. The Stratum Overdrive embodies this concept by offering two distinct TS-style overdrive circuits that can be used individually or stacked for ultimate tonal flexibility. With tailored EQ controls on each channel, the Stratum lets you sculpt your tone layer by layer, delivering rich, midrange-heavy overdrive to your pedalboard.
THE SOUND Channel 1: A bright, sparkly overdrive with a bass knob to control low-end saturation. This channel excels at adding weight and shimmer to your tone. Dial back your guitar’s volume for less clipping while maintaining a dynamic, grainy character. Channel 2: A darker, more saturated overdrive with a clarity knob to enhance definition. This channel focuses on smooth, usable highs and a warm, rich tone. Stack Them Together: Engage both channels for a supercharged, gnarly overdriven sound. The cascading circuits add depth and complexity to your tone, making it perfect for searing solos or powerful rhythm work.
FEATURES Two Independent Channels: Each channel features Gain, Tone, and Volume controls, with Channel 1 offering a Bass knob and Channel 2 equipped with a Clarity knob. Effect Order Switch: Toggle the order of the two circuits to customize how they interact. Use one to boost the other for unique cascading overdrive tones.
The Tech This pedal is designed around two TS-Style circuits with different tone-shaping capabilities. I made the boards using surface mount resistors and capacitors; however, I hand stuff the op-amps and diodes to allow for customizability, and I hand-wire the jacks and components for serviceability. As it is a tube screamer derivative at heart, I typically use 4558-style op-amps in them.
